An e-Book for Encouraging Mom’s who are Homeschooling an Only Child
We are a unique breed. The family that has an only child. Look around, most families have 2 0r 3 children. Then in homeschool world we are quite the exception. Even stereotype concludes that homeschooling families mostly have 5, 6 or 10 students. So an only child who is homeschooled is considered strange.
People worry, they think that if you homeschool a single child they will miss out. They worry that a child without siblings won’t learn to interact with others. Strangers feel they have the right to tell you that you are depriving your child if you don’t provide them with siblings or worse yet a public school education.

Do you often feel left out, alone and as if no one understands the unique role that you find yourself in? Let me tell you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In fact, I’ve recently discovered several homeschooling mom’s of only children. Some online and some in real life and just at a time when I needed them most. I met Amy Stults in blogging circles and we later realized we live in the same area and have since become friends and participate in several homeschooling activities together.
She and her business partner at iHomeschool Network, Jimmie Lanley, are just releasing a brand new e-book called “Homeschooling an Only Child, When One is Just Right.”
A Book for Homeschool Moms of Only Children
In this book you will find two moms who share the joy of being a mom to an only. They encourage and support your decision to homeschool and they reassure you that you are making the right decision. You will also find quotes from other moms (including me) along the way who share the joys and benefits of being a mom to an only. There are also quotes from children (including Little Man) who, with much insight share the beauty of being an only child. They share a perspective that is both surprising and wise.
Personally, for me, reading this book brought a measure of peace to my heart concerning being the mom of ONE. I love my son and am truly grateful to have him in my life. But, I had dreamed of multiple children, until reading this book I had not found comfort in being a mom of an only. The reality is God designed my family and He designed it to be perfect with an only child. Finding peace in God’s plan has helped me to come to terms with my reality, to seek His Joy for my life and to lay aside my own sorrow over what was not to be.
I am currently homeschooling my only child – a 6 year old extroverted, energetic boy. As far as I can tell, I’m the only “only-schooler” in my area, and it’s hard to find him the interaction he craves. I struggle daily with the guilt of it, and wonder if we’re making the right decision. I look forward to getting some encouragement from the book!

Wow! Thanks for your words, they brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes we think that we are alone with our specific situations, and it’s not true. I struggle with accepting what God has planned for my family. I always dreamed of a large family, but His plans are different. I have to be grateful, because I am alive and can enjoy my son but I would be untruthful if I said I am happy and at peace with my inability to have more children. We are going to home school and I worry of all those things he will miss out, I know he really won’t miss it , but I know what is having siblings, And how fun It Is and I just wish he could experience that same joy. I guess it will take time to accept God’s will in my life, but reading this gives me hope 🙂
You are welcome Lizbeth. I know that feeling. I truly do. I dreamed of 8 children. I some days still struggle with the peace, but I do take Joy each and every day in the blessing of my one child. Because for 12 years I experienced marriage without the joy of motherhood, so having the blessing of one is far more than I deserve. 🙂

Hi Renee! I found you on a youtube video. I actually have four kids but my third is ten years older than my fourth. We adopted our fourth child four year ago. My third son will graduate next school year. After that it will just be me and my little girl. It is almost like she is a only child now because of the big age difference. I want to learn as much as I can about homeschooling an only child. She is very much an extrovert. That has been very hard. Also she has fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Along with sensory issues and learning issues.
