A couple of weeks ago I attended a homeschool mom’s retreat and during one of the sessions the speaker spoke of preparing ahead for your child’s high school years by contacting possible colleges when your child is in the 8th grade in order to determine what required classes and other requirements they may have for allowing your homeschool student to apply for admission.

I thought that is a great idea. This way you aren’t scrambling in the middle of the junior year to catch up before graduation. But, then I realized. That’s next year! What? Do I need to plan for college next year? Oh boy!

That’s when I started thinking about what else I might need to do to go about preparing for high school and ultimately college. So I pulled together a list of the top 10 high school homeschool bloggers to share them with you. These are the mamas who are sharing, encouraging and teaching the rest of us what we need to do to graduate our students successfully.

  1. Eek! That’s only two years away for us…. and my son insists he’s not going to college. Which I’m fine with— but then I worry about what happens if he changes his mind say Junior year of high school. I too have found it helpful to start reading high schooling blogs to prepare better.

    1. It’s all a bit scary isnt’ it?
Does he have an idea for what he might want to do? Like a trade? I think perhaps even if he is only wanting to do a trade you make sure you cover the basics like Algebra 1, Biology, Chemistry, and English. Then you may not have to go as intensive on heavier lessons like Physics/Geometry/Trig.
Also maybe check with trade schools and see what their requirements are. When your son is a little older sit down with him and share those with him and see if he has an idea.

  2. I can think of a couple you missed…. Annie & Everything and Classes By Beth (blog). And I didn’t know about three on your list. Now to go check them out!

  3. Great list! I’ve read several of them and can attest to their quality. Taking any additions? As a homeschooling mama, I never tire of resources!
    Thanks so much for sharing.
    Wishing you a lovely day.
